I hope this is the appropriate place for this post I shot my brand new 7mm bc today for the first time Weatherby factory rifle with 307 action Beautiful wood, and that is in part why i bought it Federal premium 175 grain ammunition with nickel plated cases with advertised velocity of 3150. I have been looking for a load for a christensen arms ridgeline fft i recently won in a raffle in 7mm prc the rifle has a 22” barrel and is crazy light
I mounted a vx5 hd 3 x 15x44 wind plex scope I also have a q trash pand suppressor on this rifle I acquired some peterson brass Which the 7mm rem mag and the 300 Win mag are similar in preformance but the 300 will leave a bigger hole the size of the exit wound is all about bullet selection and velocity The advantage of the 30's is heavier bullets at the same or higher velocities so with the same make of bullets they will give you better penetration.
How many rounds down the pipe Hot load, light load, factory load Or anything else you may have discovered I think the 7mm rem is the best compromise in ballistics, recoil and barrel life out of what's available That and it's a very common round so good factory ammo is easy to find. By my limited understanding of the economics of production, the 7mm backcountry should be significantly less expensive than a brass based equivalent to provide a value proposition to the consumer
The equivalent to me is the 28 nosler and while ammoseek shows some at $2.50 each, midway and local is more like $5.00. What sort of loads and velocities are you guys seeing with the 7 prc I’m sort of toying with the idea of replacing my 300 wm with the 7 prc but what wondering what is real world experience with different bullets out there Looking for something more than the 6.5 cm i have and just wanted some feedback from 7mm rm shooters that reload Bullet choice, velocity, accuracy, performance on elk etc what twist rate to most 7mm rm have ?
