Our mandate to protect the public includes protecting first nations, métis, and inuit peoples in bc. The centre for excellence in indigenous health’s ubc 23 24 indigenous cultural safety (ics) program aims to prepare future health care professionals to provide quality, culturally safe care, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes for indigenous peoples. As outlined by cihr (2020), indigenous health research is based on the right to respectful engagement and equitable opportunities To this end, cihr sets out ‘guidelines’ to assist researchers and institutions in carrying out ethical and culturally safe research involving indigenous peoples. Cultural safety is when all people feel respected and safe when they interact with the health care system Culturally safe health services are free of racism and discrimination
People are supported to draw strengths from their identity, culture and community. Our training is for service providers that work with indigenous people.
