It tries to read, i can hear some clicks but then stop trying to read, the led light keep on but nothing happens Could it be the cable Do i need to send him to the warrant? My wd passport has just done exactly the same thing It switches on, power is there but the pc only recognises it as an external drive and not as a wd passport etc Neither can i access the files on it

I got a new mac book as a gift, but my files are all on my old pc I would like to transfer these files to the mac book I did pick up a new western digital passport, but i have no idea where to begin Any help is greatly appreciated. I have tried it in usb 3.0 and 2.0 It recognizes the usb connection, but not the drive Is there a place i can get a new usb cable to see if that is the problem or is there a place to take the drive to get the data off of it As previously noted, you may erase the files from your computer once copied with wd smartware into your wd external hard disk drive, however, by doing so your data is still at risk if you don’t keep an additional copy on a different location Thread moved to wd software & accessories I started to use the simple backup and restore application that comes with.
I have two hard drives C:/ for windows and programs d:/ for documents, files, music, video, etc, etc (my user profile has been relocated onto the d:/ drive The mybook essential backs up c:/ fine (i’ve tested and looked inside the wd smartware.swstor and all is as it should be For my d:/ drive, wd smartware. This is a great question, but it has not been answered, yet The question is specific … can the external drive still function legally and perfectly without the smartware being on the external drive
Can the smartware be removed completely so there is more room on the external drive for other programs I also want to know before i purchase a wd external drive
