Here, we discuss the strengths and pitfalls of various techniques commonly used to analyze synapses, including miniature excitatory/inhibitory (e/i) postsynaptic currents, evoked release, and optogenetic stimulation. The final version may differ slightly in style or formatting and will contain links to any extended data. This study shows that pharmacological activation of cbp/p300 promotes histone acetylation and regenerative gene expression, counteracting retraction and promoting growth of sensory and motor axons in a mouse model of chronic spinal cord injury with severe disability. In this study, we demonstrate that the acc hfs induced a novel, heterosynaptic form of ltp in spinal cord dorsal horn of adult rats in vivo
