Some weeks ago i started to have the problem that when applying a lot of power to the pedals, the chain was slipping (not jumping to another gear but just slipping) This was particularly problematic when pedaling in up hill or when starting from still position. You simply hang in air doing nothing The change in angular momentum will induce a very slight forward tilt This started with a trip to the mechanic for a tune up which replaced the chain I just installed a new chain on my 2002 trek 2200 road bike
The old chain was a shimano 9 speed that i installed 18 months and about 5000 miles ago It had stretched modestly and was full of win. This is a pretty common concern with cyclocross The part about replacing the cables & housings, derailer, chain, shifter and cassette should precede the part about frame failure, otherwise it can give an impression of jumping to conclusions before exhausting the usual culprits, for those who don't read comments. The problem is likely due not to anything from the chain or the cogs, but rather cable tension If the chain is trying to shift onto bigger (lower gear) cogs, then the cable is too tight
If it's too loose, it will try to shift to the next smaller cog (presuming a standard derailleur setup, some are backwards) try this I recently switched my sram 1x12 eagle sx drivetrain from a 30 to 34 direct mount chainring I also bought a new chain to accompany with it Chain length was measured as the sram service manual adv.
