Without giving away too much, poor things is about bella (emma stone), a woman who got frankensteined back to life It explores themes of women’s liberation, particularly in a world with strict morals and manners that people, especially women, are expected to follow This largely manifests itself by focusing on bella’s love of sex. But while in movies such as 5th element, the “sexy baby” latches on to the first man she sees and worships him as her protector and educator in all things worldly, poor things subverts the trope very cleverly when emma stone’s character rejects the man that seeks to be her guide, and instead discovers the world on her own terms. 8.6k subscribers in the emmastone_worship community A subreddit dedicated to the worship of our goddess emma stone
Emma stone plays a pregnant woman who, at the very beginning of the movie, jumps off a bridge Willem dafoe then finds her, removes the mothers brain and replaces it with that of the infant, and proceeds to raise the resulting homonculus That's what i understood the movie to be as i walked in. La la land doesn't work without emma stone, it's even funny to think that it might've been emma watson I don't think she should have won considering the other nominees (huppert specifically), but if looking at only the last 20 winners it is a great performance and one deserving of an oscar.
