You pay more but you won't have a boat that looks like crumpled paper after a year and can't haul a buddy with you. Hello everyone, just trying to get some direction on duck hunting boat/fishing boat Right now i have a lot of interest in the excel boats shallow water f4 pro console (1854) with an outboard 45hp I like the center console because will be used for fishing and hunting will be on the des plain. Been doing some research and looking at other boats out there, there is a company in jasper georgia called prodigy boats and from the looks of it are some great built and nice looking boats. The second option would be a 1754 or 1854 mud boat custom built by prodigy boats with a gator tail mud motor
This would obviously be the best choice for duck hunting, but i'm afraid would be the worst choice for fishing. Don't hunt many stump fields so curious as to thoughts on whether a.125 hull out of 5086 is needed or if a.100 made from 5052 is sufficient for breaking 1 or less ice Prodigy is built near op and there are dozens of 1 year old prodigy's and other sds floating around classifieds because the georgia owners realize they don't have the need for one, don't understand the maintenance required on a surface drive, and all of a sudden are upside down and in debt for a boat they don't need to shoot the minimal birds. Most of hunting comes in the form of inland lakes Im stuck in between a surface drive mud boat (gator tail, havoc mst, or a prodigy) or a regular outboard on an all welded jon boat (alumacraft waterfowler 16, lowe 16, war eagle, or a havoc) I dont hunt anywhere where its gonna take a mud boat to get from the launch area to the desired hunting.
Just from reading around on the forum, i have noticed that some people will say brand xyz is good for mud motors, but this boat and hull isn't Been boatless for quite a few years now Looking to get a new boat for hunting & fishing again Mostly would be used in rivers, lakes, and occasionally in brackish marshes & sounds I’ve always liked the idea of a mud motor boat setup but not sure if i’ll be willing to hunt ducks as hard as i.
